We can’t resist anything remotely related to A Christmas Story, which admittedly is how this article caught our eye – initially. While the large majority of Facebook and Twitter’s revenue comes from ads both platforms have made it clear they’d like to be a direct source for users to purchase products from those ads. The idea is you could easily purchase with one-click those Zappos boots you looked at once and ever since a Facebook ad for the product has been following you around Facebook like a shadow you can’t shake. Unfortunately, if you’re looking to do your holiday shopping in between ‘Likes’ your list may not get any shorter. Maybe next year.

Take a trip down memory lane with some of the most sharable ads of the year. Not surprisingly, animal ads dominated the most watched of the year. But, what was surprising was how some brands took a more sentimental route. Be sure to have some tissues on hand before playing UK retailer John Lewis’ Christmas ad.

A New View of an Old City

Google Maps recently updated it’s street view feature to include 30 historical sites across Jordan, including the City of Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Its sprawling pink and white ruins helped this 2,000-year-old tourist attraction earn the nickname “Rose City.” Explore the ancient ruins, which you might recognize from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, all right from the comfort of home and without the hour-long mountain climb.
